Happy May! Have you been waiting patiently for all of those April showers to finally bring our May flowers? Us too! As we enter the month of May, I’m sure we’re also thinking ahead to Memorial Day weekend. Where we’re going to be celebrating the holiday that unofficially kicks off the start to summer, what kind of food we’ll be grilling, praying for the best of weather. What we often fail to remember while we’re eating burgers & enjoying the extra day off with family and friends is why exactly it is that we are able to celebrate Memorial Day.
This year, let’s remember its significance – to honor all the brave men & women who have sacrificed their lives fighting to protect our liberties. Whether we’re wearing our red poppies to honor our deceased veterans, raising our flags, or just simply taking a moment of silence to be thankful for our freedoms – let us be cognizant and aware of Memorial Day’s true meaning.
“We do not know one promise these men made, one pledge they gave, one word they spoke; but we do know they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.”
– James A. Garfield
