Hey Joey’s Fund Supporters! June begins the start of “Relay for Life” events nationwide. Until participating in an event last year when we represented the JF organization, we really didn’t fully understand the origin of Relay for Life. Read below to learn more about this most worthy cause doing their due diligence to bring awareness to the thorn in all of our sides – Cancer.
Relay for Life events bring together those in the community who celebrate the lives of loved ones who have lost their battle to cancer. Each event is 6-24 hours long, and each team is asked to have a member walking on the track at all times during these events to signify the fact that Cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients don’t stop fighting because their tired, and for one night, participants won’t either. In addition to various activities taking place outside of the track, luminarias are also personalized and lit up to memorialize the lives of hundreds of loved ones. What a site it was to see these luminaris lit up after dark, knowing the one common theme that tied all of these memorials together was LOVE – the love each and every participant had for those they were walking on behalf of.
